The Great East Japan Earthquake
On March 11, 2011 Japan suffered a devastating earthquake and tsunami. On behalf of JACET I express my deepest condolences to the disaster victims and their families. My sympathy goes to the survivors of this horrible catastrophe, the countless people who lost their homes and have endured the untold hardship of evacuations due to the fears of radioactive contamination. I pray for the earliest possible recovery from this unprecedented tragedy.
The disaster affected some of the activities of JACET. The Spring seminar scheduled for March 27 had been postponed to July 17, 2001. The Summer seminar originally planned for August 4-7 has been cancelled. Other activities are going ahead as planned. The regular chapter conventions and the 50th Commemorative International Convention will be held as scheduled.
I strongly believe in the resilience of Japanese people and of the JACET members. Our country is facing a test of character and I am convinced we will all rise up to the challenge. Let us begin on this path of recovery, rebuilding and renewal.
